Downtown Albany Welcomes Albany’s Best Running to Front Street Market

 Albany, GA – The Downtown Manager’s Office announces that Don Borowski, owner of Albany’s Best Running, will bring his specialty athletic retail business to Downtown Albany. The store will be located at 108 Pine Avenue in the Front Street Market, with an anticipated opening in Summer 2026. 

Mr. Borowski, a successful entrepreneur with established locations in Statesboro, Tifton, and Valdosta, is expanding his presence in South Georgia. Albany’s Best Running will offer high-quality running and athletic footwear from leading brands such as Brooks and HOKA, providing a personalized retail experience for runners, walkers, and fitness enthusiasts. 

The Albany Dougherty Inner City Authority Board unanimously approved the lease agreement during its March 26, 2026 meeting, demonstrating continued confidence in the growth of Downtown Albany. 

“This is another exciting step forward for Downtown Albany,” said Lequrica Gaskins, Downtown Manager and ADICA and DDA Executive Director. “Albany’s Best Running strengthens our retail base while supporting health, wellness, and community engagement. We are proud to welcome this business to downtown.” 

This announcement reflects ongoing downtown development efforts led by the Albany Dougherty Inner City Authority (ADICA) and the Downtown Development Authority (DDA). 

Other current and active downtown projects include: 

  • 56 residential units at the Davis Exchange Building to expand downtown living opportunities
  • Development at 115 and 121 Front Street, including the 4C on Front project, which will house the Georgia Grown Resource Center
  • The Harlem Renaissance Legacy Wellness Center
  • Planned enhancements to the Ritz Theatre and Cultural Center
  • Development of the St. Nicholas Hotel
  • Continued streetscape improvements to enhance connectivity, accessibility, and the overall downtown experience
  • Groundbreaking for the Albany Museum of Art (coming soon)
  • Development of four downtown storefronts, including the Sliver’s Building and the Churchwell Building, located on Washington Street, which will include an Amici restaurant 

These initiatives highlight a continued focus on revitalization, support for small businesses, and creating a destination where people can live, work, and thrive.
