1888 Mills Expands to Griffin
1888 Mills announced today that is has purchased the 500,000 square foot former NACOM facility on Airport Road in Griffin, Georgia. This is part of an expansion that will produce a sizeable investment in land, buildings and equipment and also create approximately 100 new jobs. Douglas R. Tingle, Board of Managers for 1888 Mills, stated, “This is part of an expansion and modernization initiative we have for our USA platform. We continue to believe that USA manufacturing is important in supporting our local community. Each manufacturing job we create has a trickledown effect to the local economy. That is what we mean by our Brand Purpose – Weaving a Better World.”
1888 Mills is a leading global manufacturer of home and commercial textiles catering to the retail, hospitality and healthcare markets worldwide. Headquartered in Griffin the Company traces its 1888 name to its roots to the proud tradition of making towels in Griffin since 1888. The Company has strategic partnerships with the nation’s leading retailers, and hospitality and institutional distributors.
“The former NACOM facility is a significant industrial asset in our community. It is great news to not only see it be returned to productive use, but to be doing so in support of the expansion of one of our valued existing companies, 1888 Mills, makes it even more positive for Griffin and Spalding County. 1888 Mills has proven, that in spite of the challenges faced by the textile industry, there continues to be a strong demand for products made in the U.S.A., by American workers. Doug Tingle and the management of 1888 have been tremendous partners to the Griffin-Spalding Development Authority in our effort to not only keep these jobs local, but to expand their numbers,” stated Griffin Spalding Development Authority (GSDA) Chair, Chuck Copeland. GSDA Executive Director , David M. Luckie, echoed Mr. Copeland’s sentiments. “We are very happy and fortunate to have such a quality company like 1888 decide to remain in our community, and also thrilled by the new investment and job creation as part of this initiative. 1888 Mills currently employs 200+ people in the area. Tingle also stated, “we can think of no better place to be and are happy we could expand into a modern facility like NACOM on 68 acres. He expressed thanks to the Griffin-Spalding Development Authority for their assistance along with help from Kenny Smith, Brant Keller, the City of Griffin Board of Commissioners, the Spalding County Board of Commissioners, and the Georgia Department of Economic Development (E. Jane Caraway).
